Build one of these to start the Spring semester off with some extra credit.
I won't mention this opportunity in class- only to those who check the website- These are easy to build and a sure 5th grade science project winner. The Electric Telegraph is one of the most important inventions in the history of science! It directly led the way to the development of all digital communications including computers, fax, the internet, email, and text messaging. You can make one with a little bit of money (maybe under $5.00 if you have some of these materials in the toolbox at home) and a handy friend or family member. We will talk about how this invention changed the world and use the sets in class. This website has the easiest to build telegraph sets- don't hurt yourself! http://www.w1tp.com/perbuild.htm
Friday, December 7th- Presidents Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln
Friday, November 30th- America TSOU- Episode 4- Division
Presidents Video- John Q. Adams to James K. Polk
Make your predictions!

Email your map for some extra credit- 3 points. Whichever map gets closest (or gets it right on!) will win another 10 points extra credit!

The War of 1812
These clips were a hit! Well, they were with some classes. You should watch in order from top-left to bottom-left to top-right to bottom-right. The first clip is a preview of a movie about a war. The next is a classic by Johnny Horton- was a #1 hit in April 1959- and was quickly mocked in the same year in the Battle of Camp Kookamunga (top-right) and finally- the modern Canadian perspective of this war- humorously presented of course. (albeit factually incorrect and upsetting to some)

Friday's Activity- Using your mental map, two colored sheets of paper, and your hands- make a map of the World. We noted that we typically undersize Africa, supersize North America, and skip Southeast Asia (note one of the maps has an excellent Malaysia and Indonesia). The World Tube wins most creative. Given more time I think this group would have molded a globe with topographical features and a raised-relief. Great work guys!
Wednesday, August 8th
We will not spend class time on Chapter 1 from your textbook- but the following video covers it well. Watch it (click on VoD) and take notes (closed captioning might help with this). Remember- handwritten notes can be used on quizzes, and any time you are given an assignment to read or watch something, there might be a quiz. Due Friday, August 10th.

If you are thinking of preparing for the APUSH Exam right now, then I salute you! My official recommendations among review books are the REA APUSH Test book- 8th Edition, and the AMSCO Prep book Here is a link to Amazon's page for the REA book, and here is a link to Amazon's page for the AMSCO book. The practice tests are a little easier than the real thing- so for practice exams I'd attend my exam reviews in April. For practice questions alone- the Princeton Review book is good.
